OpenVPN is a program that users can utilize to create a secure VPN connection between their device and a VPN server. It does this by using a custom VPN protocol to handle all the encryption and authentication processes of the device and the VPN server. With OpenVPN, you can ensure that you’ll always form a secure connection whether it be point-to-point or site-to-site.

Sometimes your region or the network you’re using have blocked OpenVPN. This means that you can’t access OpenVPN when you reside in that region or when you connect to that network. To bypass these restrictions, you need to pair OpenVPN with an OpenVPN proxy.

An OpenVPN proxy will allow you to protect your personal data and keep you safe from people or websites with malicious intent. There are many more useful cases for a proxy like access to geo-restricted websites and total protection when browsing on even untrustworthy public wifi networks.

Let’s set up an OpenVPN proxy server.

How To Use Proxies With OpenVPN

Step 1. Set up OpenVPN, open the .ovpn config file and input “http-proxy {Proxy IP Address} {Proxy Port} stdin basic” between “proto tcp” and “remote {VPN server IP address} {OpenVPN Port}”. Change {Proxy IP Address} {Proxy Port} to their respective details.

If you find Initialization Sequence Completed then the proxies are set up correctly.

Congratulations! You have successfully finished configuring an OpenVPN proxy server.
